Ingredients

  • 1 cup arhar dal
  • Ginger
  • Garlic(finely chopped)
  • ½ tbs turmeric
  • ½ tbs cumin powder
  • ¼ tbs Hing
  • Salt
  • ⅓ tbs red chilli powder
  • ½ tbs whole cumin
  • 1 tomato(Finely Chopped)
  • 1 onion(Finely chopped)
  • 1 dried red chilli
  • Green fresh Coriander
  • Note: you can also use ginger garlic paste

Methods

Step 1:

Clean Arhar dal 3 to 4 times in water. Now, keep it for 15 to 20 minutes to soak.

Step 2:

Now, take a pressure cooker and add soaked dal to it. Add chilli, salt to taste, turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste, and chopped tomatoes. Add water and stir it nicely. Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook it for two whistles on a low flame.

Step 3:

Take the lid off the pressure cooker. If the dal has become too thick at this stage and does not have the right consistency, add some more water. Taste the dal, and if necessary, add extra salt and seasoning. While preparing the tadka, put the heat low down and simmer the arhar dal. For tadka, you can use garlic, cumin, dried red chillies, chopped onion, and hing

Step 4:

Prepare the tadka. Take a pan and heat the ghee. Once hot, add cumin, hing, dried chillies, chopped garlic, and onions. Stir until the onion and garlic turn a light brown. Finally, add red chilli powder and cumin and take off the heat.

Step 5:

Now add hot tadka to the arhar dal. Mix it well. Add chopped fresh Coriander. Again, cover the pressure cooker with its lid and allow it to sit for 5 Minutes. This way, the flavour and aroma of tadka are nicely blended with the dal. Now serve with your favourite side dish.
