Ingredients

  • Green moong dal
  • 2 Tomato
  • 1 Onion
  • ½ Tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1 Tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1 Tsp Coriander Powder
  • ½ Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • ½ Tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • Salt to Taste
  • Kasuri Methi
  • Oil or Ghee
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • 2 to 3 Green Chillies

Methods

Step 1: Soak the green moong dal

Wash the moong in 3 to 4 changes of water and soak them for 5 to 6 hours.

Step 2: Cook the Moong dal

Take the soaked moong, drain the water, and rinse them. Put them in a pressure cooker and add water, salt, and turmeric. Cook for 10 minutes on three whistle on a medium-high heat. Note: Allow the pressure to release on its own. After that, remove the lid and pour the moong dal, including the water, into a bowl. Keep it aside. The moong dal should be tender but not overcooked.

Step 3: Preparing the curry

Chop fine garlic, ginger, onions, green chilies, and tomatoes. Now heat oil in a pan on a medium-high flame. Add cumin seeds, red chilies, and hing when it's hot. Once they are red, add the chopped onion, garlic, and green chilies. Fry it until the onion starts turning brown. Now add tomatoes, salt, and other spice powders like turmeric, cumin powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Cook them for 5 to 6 minutes until they turn mushy.

Step 4: Finish off

Now add the cooked dal to the curry sauce and crush kasuri methi to add to the dal for a fresh aroma. Cover it with a lid and rest it for 10 minutes until a good boil comes. Then, turn off the flame and let the moong dal curry sit for another 5 to 10 minutes. Pair your Low-Calorie Moong Dal with a freshly cooked Veg Pullao, full of healthy veggies.
