Ingredients
- 1 cup yellow moong dal
- 1-2 finely chopped green chillies (add as per your taste)
- ½ tablespoon cumin seeds
- 1 inch piece of ginger
- ½ cup rice (to add texture)
- Water (for soaking)
- Finely chopped fresh coriander leaves
- Oil (to cook the dosa)
- Salt to taste
- Oil or Ghee, Salt and Pepper
- 1 tbsp lime juice
Methods
Step 1:
Rinse the dal and rice in running water until the water comes clear. Soak dal and rice in enough water for 30 minutes. It will make the ingredients smooth for blending
Step 2:
Remove the water and transfer dal and rice to a blender along with green chillies, salt, cumin seeds, and ginger. Add water slowly and gradually to make a thick batter. Make sure the consistency is similar to pancake batter.
Step 3:
Heat the tawa on a medium flame. Once heated, pour 2 drops of oil to grease the tawa for a crispy texture.
Step 4:
Pour a server full of batter on the tawa. Move it in a circular motion over the tawa. Drop 2-3 drops of oil on the sides of the batter. Heat it over a medium flame until it turns golden brown. Turn the pancake to the other side and heat for 2 minutes.
Step 5:
Serve the dal-dosa hot with coconut chutney and sambhar.
Step 6:
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Pro-tips
Tip 1:
Soaking time: If you do not have much time, then soaking for 15 minutes will also work. However, a longer soaking time will result in smoother batter.
Tip 2:
Add nutrition: To add more nutrition, you can add onion, carrot, and capsicum to the batter.
Tip 3:
Storage: The batter can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Just make sure to stir the batter before using.
